Declaration of certain land as part of the existing Harold Porter National Botanical Garden

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy, in terms of section 33(2)(b) of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (Act No. 10 of 2004), declared Erf 3007, Bettys Bay, a 1.15-hectare portion of land situated in the Overstrand Local Municipality, within the Overberg District Municipality, in the Western Cape Province, as part of the existing Harold Porter National Botanical Garden.

The declaration of the extension will supplement the conservation value of the garden and expand the garden’s natural wetland habitat. It will serve as a natural corridor for wildlife. The extension supports the National Botanical Gardens Expansion Strategy 2019-2030 (published in 2020) and contributes to the expansion of National Botanical Gardens in South Africa.
