Mayor of City of Ekurhuleni Cllr Tania Campbell welcomed all delegates to the Indaba. She stated that the municipality takes carbon footprints seriously. "We have only one planet we call home & it must be conserved for future generations”.

Delivering her address, Deputy Minister Sotyu says during the SONA last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa bemoaned the state of our local government, noting that 163 out of 257 are in distress due to poor governance

To improve the current local government performance and support mechanisms to advance environmental sustainability, delegates were divided into commissions, focusing on air quality management, waste management, biodiversity and conservation, climate change, coastal management and forestry.
