Deputy Minister Sotyu told the learners about the importance of trees as part of Arbour Month celebrated under the theme Forests and Biodiversity and how the eco school desks donated today to replace the old desks stem from chopped invasive species which are bad for the environment.

Deputy Minister Sotyu also handed over gardening tools including vegetable seeds.

Deputy Minister Sotyu and the MEC for Environmental Affairs, Nature Conservations and Agriculture Ms Mase Manopole also planted a tree as part of the Arbour Month activities at the school Forests and Biodiversity.

Speaking to SABC News after leading the Galeshewe Good Green Deeds clean-up, Deputy Minister Sotyu highlighted that waste management and the Arbour Month campaign's objective of greening settlements go hand in hand especially in ensuring the protection of school Forests and Biodiversity.

The Department's Arbour Month campaign partner IERM has vouched to ensure that the work done over Arbour Month continues and that the remembrance gardens unveiled in the Free State, Gauteng and the Northern Cape are not neglected.
