Deputy Minister Sotyu launches Arbour Month in Thaba Nchu, Free State

27 August 2020

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Ms Makhotso Sotyu will kick-off the National Arbour Month campaign with the launch of a memorial garden and greening of settlements in Thaba Nchu, Free State on Tuesday 1 September 2020.

National Arbour Month is an annual campaign coordinated by the national Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with Total South Africa. This year’s campaign will be coordinated under the theme “Forests and Biodiversity,” signifying the importance of protecting and conserving our biodiversity as the backbone of our economy and livelihoods.

The tree planting activities for the 2020 National Arbour Month campaign will focus on remembrance and commemorative tree planting and greening of settlements as well as creation of Remembrance gardens.

The Deputy Minister will also handover skip bins to Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality as part of the launch of this year’ campaign. Skip bins are the best solution for the temporary storage of waste in the communities to protect the human health, well-being and the environment.
