Minister Creecy to host stakeholder meeting with Hermanus and Houtbay fishing communities
08 October 2019
The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, will on Wednesday and Thursday, 09-10 October 2019, host stakeholder meetings with the fishing coastal communities of Hermanus and Hout Bay.
Minister Creecy will use the meetings to engage with and respond to Fisheries related issues from the various coastal communities and the surrounding areas.
In a community meeting held with fishers from West Coast fishing communities that took place in Lambert’s Bay last month, Minister Creecy announced that the department will conclude the allocation of fishing rights for Small-scale Co-operatives in Kwazulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape during September and October, while the allocations in the Western Cape will be concluded at the beginning of the fishing season. This includes announcements on the “basket of species” to be made available to the registered Small-scale co-operatives in the different coastal regions.
