DFFE to lead World Wetlands Day activity in Gqeberha Eastern Cape

The department will be leading a World Wetlands Day activity, on 5 February 2022, in Kwazakhele, Gqeberha
This is part of World Wetlands Day 2022 celebrations which were on 2 February 2022 under the theme: ‘Wetlands action for people and nature’.
The department will be hosting an outreach activity at K.K. Ncwane Primary School, Kwazakhele, Gqeberha.
Officials from Swartkops Conservancy will be facilitating outside classroom workshops, to teach the learners about the importance of preserving wetlands.
World Wetlands Day is marked annually on 2 February commemorating the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
As a signatory to the Ramsar Convention, South Africa remains committed to working towards the wise use of all wetlands through effective land use planning and the development of appropriate policies and legislation, management actions, and public education to protect these natural purifiers of water resources.
