Minister Creecy to lead a clean-up event in Philippi, City of Cape Town Municipality, on Friday, 10 February 2023

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy, and the Executive Mayor of the City of Cape Town Mr Geordin Hill-Lewis will lead a Good Green Deeds clean-up event on Friday, 10 February 2023, in Philippi, City of Cape Town, Western Cape.

The clean-up will target the Monwood Stormwater Pond near the Philippi informal settlement. The area is notorious for serious crimes; it is also where the brutally murdered body of Nomvuzo Atoli was discovered in August 2021 in a container.  

The minister, City of Cape Town Municipality, community policing forum and Working for Wetlands participants will embark on a clean-up activity. The clean-up is part of the Good Green Deeds Clean-Up Campaign launched by the president. Indigenous trees will also be towards the 10 Million Trees Programme led by the DFFE.

  • 11:00 – Monwood storm pond clean-up
