Deputy Minister Sotyu to unveil improved infrastructure at Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Ms Makhotso Sotyu will on Tuesday, 30 March 2021, unveil newly built and improved infrastructure at the Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve in Limpopo Province.

Implemented in partnership with Limpopo Tourism, the infrastructure development and improvements at Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve forms part of the R208 million worth People and Parks projects undertaken by the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries in the province. This included, among other things, construction of a staff village, camping site, shared facilities, swimming pool and upgraded water infrastructure.

The People and Parks Programme invests in infrastructure development and biodiversity conservation for economic benefits by ensuring that local communities are involved in the management of protected and surrounding areas, by promoting biodiversity values in the proclaimed protected and surrounding areas.

In the execution of the Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve project, at least 290 work opportunities benefiting women, youths and people with disability were created for the local people.
