The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries to host 8th Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Lekgotla, in Northern Cape
05 September 2019
The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries will on 9 September 2019 launch its 2018/19 National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report in Kimberley, Northern Cape.
The launch will take place at the start of the Green Scorpions (Environmental Management Inspectors) 8th Environmental Compliance & Enforcement, Lekgotla 2019 being held from 9 – 12 September.
The Environmental Management Inspectorate or Green Scorpions is a network of environmental compliance and enforcement officials from all spheres of government who work to ensure that industry, business, government and citizens comply with environmental legislation. The Inspectorate was created in terms of the National Environmental Management Act and came into effect on 1 May 2005.
The theme for the 2019 Lekgotla is “Facing the Future Together” and supports a cohesive response to environmental challenges and greater collaboration between the various environmental authorities in South Africa to address concerns in the Blue, Green and Brown sub-sectors. These range from water and air pollution to chemical waste, dumping and litter.
The 2018/19 financial year marks the 13th year in which DEFF has collaborated with its provincial and local counterparts and statutory bodies to develop the National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report (NECER). The joint publication aims to provide an overview of environmental compliance and enforcement activities undertaken by the various environmental authorities.
The NECER is aimed at a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including a range of private, public and community-based institutions.
Members of the media are invited to attend.
